Week 2 - January 18 2012

This has been a really interesting class. I think one of the biggest things I've learned today/this week is that Marketing is not the same as sales/selling. It is so much more than that. All areas of business can participate in marketing. What one does can affect the whole. Also, twitter is more fun that I thought it was and the same goes for blogging. There are also different methods/philosophies to marketing. I used to think of TV ads and other generally seen kinds of marketing, but now I think of that and more. I think I'm starting to get excited  for this class!

Week 1 - January 11, 2012

A Note about the following: I wrote this last week after attending the first class. I'm kind of excited to start this blog. Even though I started another blog yesterday, I consider this to be my first blog. This blog will be a sort of a journal for the things I am learning in my marketing class this semester. I hope that it will help me to understand marketing better and be interesting to you as a reader.

My First Post:

Tonight was the introductions to the class. I think the general information about the course was useful to know. But I really liked how Professor Allen tied the four pillars of the Huntsman School of Business to the course. I’m not sure, but I don’t think any of my professors have done that before, although they might have. Like Professor Allen said and showed us through the PowerPoint. Only about 5% of information is retained from a lecture (not counting the audio-visual percentage increase). The tie in really helps me see how the class can apply to what I want to do in the future and it gives me a chance to possibly look at how my other classes apply to the pillars more fully. Overall this looks like it is going to be a great course. I’m sad that only a few will get to do the Instruction Presentations though. I’m not sure if I should because if I do someone who needs it may not get too. There is also a chance that I may need to do one to help my grade. It’s hard to know this early in the semester.
